tn5250/tn3270 or Telnet can not be used with
our new Vista products.
The Slide out QWERTY keyboard is operating
as though the "Function" key has been locked, only allowing the user to
enter symbols and numbers. There is a bug in the ROM for the phone. Check the phone vendor for advice on how to upgrade the ROM.
The new Google toolbar version 4.0 uses F12 as a hot key, and the activex object will never get the key event. Either use
Google toolbar version 3, remove the Google toolbar, or assign F12 function to another key in our product, as a work around solution.
If the font used in our Dialog/menu is deleted or replaced with a bogus font, our tn5250 program
will make a crash.
The font must not be removed from /System/Library/Fonts/Times.dfont
Find the file using Finder - Go - Home - Library - Preferences - dk.mochasoft.tn5250.plist
Microsoft has made a strange change in the Web server, which will stop the server from
downloading files of unknown types. We must see this as a bug, and can notice Microsoft has
released this page:
IIS 6.0 Does Not Serve Unknown MIME Types
Windows CE .NET is a customizable, real-time embedded operating system, designed for many types
of hardware. It is not a platform which it is possible to make a standard product for. In most
cases the company making the hardware, will also include special designed software. Do not expect,
it is possible to use standard software, as the products Mochasoft sells.
Pocket PC 200x software are platforms built on Windows CE 3.0. Unlike Windows CE 3.0 or Windows CE .NET,
the Pocket PC operating system is specifically designed for personal digital assistants (PDAs)
which require a specialized hardware configuration. The Pocket PC platform includes standardized
interfaces and applications that ensure compatibility across Pocket PC hardware designs. Mochasoft
supports the different pocket PC 200x versions from Microsoft.
Most devices with Windows Mobile can be used with our software, but there are
some none standard devices, such as phones without a touch screen or a different screen size (example : Treo 700w)
Mochasoft does not sell any products for the Blackberry platform. On most networks (not the Nextel 6510/7510)
it is not possible to make direct TCP sessions between a Blackberry device and
an AS/400, and such an environment will therefore require a special BlackBerry Enterprise Server
in order to perform network connections.
In Mac OS X v.10.3, the F9, F10, and F11 function keys are reserved for use by Exposé,
a feature that tiles open windows and reveals files on the desktop.
Therefore, these function keys don't work as expected in other applications.
Reassign the keyboard shortcuts in the Exposé System Preferences (Select Apple menu icon -
system preferences - personal - exposé) so
that the F9, F10 and F11 keys will work as intended in other applications.
We can recommend in the Apple menu icon - system preferences - (hardware section) "keyboard and mouse" -
section: keyboard
off [] use F1 - F12 for custom actions
section: keyboard shortcuts
on [x] turn on full keyboard access
Apple has changed the keyboard and mouse dialog, and in 10.4, you should enable
on [x] Use all F1 , F2, Etc keys as standard function keys.
If Exposé is used, it is possible to use double keys to get 5250 functions. As an example to issue a F9 function on the 5250 screen, press either fn + f9 or ctrl + f9
Microsoft has been forced to stop supporting Java in Internet Explorer. A work around to this problem
could be to install the SUN MSJVM. Just notice the current versions of the MSJVM includes some new
problems for terminal emulator users. A key as TAB does not work!
For the moment we have no way to fix this problem, and we could fear for other
new bugs in the Java Engine. If a Web emulator solution is needed , we recommend
our Activex version.
A Microsoft paper from 2003 with more details:
Transitioning from the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine
How to install the old Microsoft Java VM (now unsupported from Microsoft) on a new XP OS:
- Download the old Java VM msjavx86.exe (6.5 M. byte)
- Reboot the PC
- Run Windows update (In IE : Menu - Tools - Windows update)
Notice we do
not support SUN
Java in our Java
products,
and cannot offer
support on issues
related to such an
environment.
The Mochasoft products includes no timeout function. It must be a network
or AS/400 problem. We have received reports on 2 issues on the AS/400.
- On AS/400 OS V4R4M0 there is an IBM
PTF MF23060, which could solve the problem.
- Disabled the Keep Alive function at the AS400 end.
If is is a network problem , in some cases it will help to enable the keep alive
function in our MochaSoft product.
Before Version 6.0, blank fields with the Field Separator option enabled
would be shown as ......
As many customers could not accept this, the Field Separator value was in version
6.0 changed from a dot to a space. It is possible to define the field Separator
value in mocha w32 tn5250:
a) In mocha w32 tn5250, Select menu - settings - EBCDIC translation. A dialog
box is shown.
b) in the left box click on "separator" (second element from
the top)
c) upper right box shows the current value. (0x20 is space).
d) in lower right box select (2 * click it) a new value. Maybe 0xb7
e) verify upper right box shows the new value
f) select save to file
The AS/400 often will not release the connection on a particular TCP/IP port when
ended (especially abnormally when a user clicks the (X) box instead of signing off).
Run netstat *CNN, and check if all the SSL ports are full.
Issue command
NETSTAT *CNN
and end all the affected ports. Maybe check with IBM for a PTF
An applet can only make a connection to the computer from which the applet came.
This is a security restriction in all browsers.
In other words the web server must run on the IBM host or a telnet proxy must
be used.
If it was possible for an applet to create connections to other computers, it
would be possible to install a hostile applet on an internet web server.
When a User behind
a firewall click the web page (and the applet), it could spy or attack
computers behind
the firewall.
In the latest version of our Java products,
it is possible to use a signed CAB file version
with the java object code. It makes it possible in Internet Explorer
4/ 5 to overrule the above described security limitation.
The TN5250 emulator uses as default ctrl c and ctrl v as copy/paste. If
left ctrl must be used as RESET, select menu - edit and click off
"ctrl+c and ctrl+v"
It looks as national keyboards have printed either a . or a , on the Del
key. Also the scan codes have been seen in different variations around
the world. In the Mochasoft product, it is possible to select menu - settings - keyboard layout,
which contain a check box:
Numlock Del key swap between . and ,
The terminal emulators will only use fonts included with the windows
Operative System.
It is possible to install extra fonts. We can
recommend:
Microsoft's Andale Mono font
or try a free font called Anonymous at
Mark Simonson Studio
Notice a terminal emulator can only use non proportional fonts (same width
for all characters).
To save a screen copy to a file, either use the clipboard
or , you must install a Generic Text Only printer and then redirect the
screen to this printer:
a) In the Windows OS, Click Start, point to Settings,
click Printers, double-click Add Printer Wizard, and then
follow the steps to install a local "Generic/Text Only" printer.
b) In the mocha terminal emulator, click the print icon, select
the Generic printer, and select option - Print to file
There is a unsuppoted Hack for solving this issue. Notice this software
has nothing to do with MochaSoft, and we cannot offer advice on using it!
newtxhome.zip
The Treo (300/600) screen is a backlit, 160 x 160 pixel resolution CSTN that supports colors. It
cannot display a 320*320 pixel screen.
There is no support for any USB devices. We
have no plans to offer such an option.
Softick has a PPP product with Palm USB support.
If you use HACKS as Afterburner on the Palm device our products
cannot work.
It is an out of dynamic memory situation. Dynamic memory is the part of
the memory an application can use for local data storage. It has nothing
to do with the total amount of memory on the Palm.
If you are using an old Palm Prof., which has been upgraded to a Palm III, or have
installed some hacks or other software elements which stay in memory, the
TCP/IP stack will not be able to load together with Telnet, and it
reports the netlibopen error.
Using a Palm or other device which does not support TCP/IP header
compression, can be a problem with V4R4, if the Palm connects direct to
the AS/400 PPP. In other words, the AS/400 has a dial in modem attached.
The setting to change in the AS/400 configuration is to uncheck the "Request
TCP/IP header compression (VJ)" box on the TCP/IP tab of the PPP profile within
Operations Navigator (Client Access).
Press "Chr" for a pop up dialog with special characters.
Another, method is to use the old Psion way:
ctrl down
124
ctrl up
A common problem with GRPS is using a wrong "Access Point Name" (APN). On a P800/P900 device it is
called "Address".
Maybe Web browsing and/or email will work,
but when using a Telnet (SSH,TN5250 or TN3270) application it will fail.
Which APN to use, depends on the phone company and it could change over time.

(*) Telnet does not work with the basic subscription (2MB), you need the 10 MB subscription to use telnet. With 2 MB you can only use the browser.
It could be an idea also to contact your phone company for advice on this subject. Notice some phone
companies offers to send a SMS message with the GRPS configuration. Often this will only include
a WAP APN.
Mocha W32 TN5250/TN3270/TELNET have been tested on Windows-98, Windows 2000 and
the new Windows XP (Home and Prof.) and we have not
discovered any problems. Looks as Microsoft has done a good job!
